The department of Anesthesia is a well-established and a well-equipped one. It is as old as the department of thoracic surgery. It is properly established in 1980. Dr Ghazanfer Sukhaira was the first regular Anesthetist in Gulab Devi Chest Hospital. Prof. Dr Shafiq-ud-Din was visiting Anesthetist from Mayo Hospital Lahore during 1970 to 1980. After retirement of Dr Ghazanfer Sukhaira, Dr. Zubair Ahmed Qureshi took charges of the department. Currently Prof Dr Zia Haider is serving the department as head. It is an entire anesthesia institution by now, which is capable to produce competent and capable anesthetists, who can serve and perform anywhere independently within the country as well as out of country. The basic purpose and aim of anesthesia department is to furnish and improve the skills of anesthetist in a desire way so that he/she can compete with anesthetist of anywhere within the country or throughout the world.
Ours is relatively young facility, however, it will be out utmost wish to establish it such that clinical work is done with safety and a an upto mark training is extended for future specialists in the field of anaesthesia and intensive care.

We are currently running nine operating tables with full standard monitoring and two tables with invasive monitoring. We have ten functional ICU beds with standard and invasive monitoring including portable X-ray machine, ABG analyzer and ventilators. We are running pre-anesthesia assessment clinic on daily basis.
